Sterling Forest State Park is a huge area of natural pristine wilderness that offers abundant outdoor recreational opportunity just a short distance from the populated metropolis of New York City. With over 21,000 acres and miles of trails, hiking options are endless. The Bare Rock Trail starts near Sterling Lake and travels west towards Greenwood Lake and then south where it connects to additional trails. The hike can be done as an out-and-back or as a loop by using other trails to travel back to Sterling Lake.
